Solid rain (they did forecast ‘bad’ weather) this morning so no out and about biked as yet. Some ‘gardening’ done yesterday so that multiple wheelie-bins can be kept in a more or less wind-free spot that’s not near front or back doors. Bins now emptied two or even three-weekly are apt to carry ‘aroma’s’. But, News with Noughts is that wage growth (pay rises?) and general public-spending are ‘in the black’ for first time since 2002. Borrowing this year then may be £40,000,000,000.00p instead of the forecast £49,900,000,000.00p. This is fine. So long as the ‘spare’ £10,000,000,000.00p helps with national debt, rather than disappears into things like hs2.
Total cost of ‘workplace and state pensions’ stood at £7,600,000,000,000.00p (7.6 trillion) in 2015. That’s over four times the UK economy.
UK passport costs to rise from £72.50 to £85.00p – adult, and from £46.00p to £58.50p under 16.
In 2016 four cyclists died and 60 were badly injured on our ageing roads. Bike-routes are good, if few and far between, use ’em if at all possible – take care out there!
Update Very cold but a six or seven miler rode later while it wasn’t raining. Sunny at Elton’s ‘beach’. Pic One.
Snow on the hills and ice around Elton’s embankment wall.
