Just behind and to the right of pictured boat is smoke rising at Winter Hill fire. Zooming pic two, just to right of pylon, smoke is visible around mast.
>It’s already warm around bike-routes and lanes.
Breezy at Elton Reservoir this morning as heat again builds.
Already warm along farm lanes.
Moors fire at Saddleworth still burning and, now, another at Winter Hill near Horwich, Bolton. Everything is tinder-dry after a week of hot weather – take care out there.
Really warm again for an early bike-ride and Witherslack Hall was steaming up to Bury over the crossing. The Crab is, I was told, ‘in pieces’. Hope it gets sorted.
Haymaking going on around the lanes.
A shade cooler for four or five biked miles this morning. Mrs C finally had a go at gear-changing while riding. Down was fine – up was tricky. Saw a mate’s really awesome old Raleigh. Brill.
Hinds Lane is well overgrown – down to 18 inches wide in parts. A section has been ‘pruned’ and re-surfaced near Bank Top Bridge, after that, toward Bury, it really closes in.
Really warm even early for bike-riding to Radcliffe and back. New panniers, £10.00p, from Lidl are brill.
Really warm for an early five or six biked miles. Large gaggle of Canada Geese on Elton and, nearby, riverside Hogweeds fully bloom.
Warm and sunny early-on and Witherslack Hall steams again at Bury South – apparently The Crab can’t run though.
Checked-out eight feet tall Hogweeds along Irwell at Close Park – some, this side, trashed. One or two now along canal from Bury.
A boat on Elton water earlier and a bit cooler today. But 90 degrees forecast for next week.
New bike fine but a clicking noise, every pedal revolution, turned-out to be a dodgy pedal. The ones supplied with new bikes are really very basic 99p stuff. Better pair fitted and noise gone. Some pedal pairs cost more than the new bike. Cables have been tightened very slightly – brakes/gears fine.
Mark Edwards fiction novel: The Retreat, finally finished. It’s deceptively long and has horror, detection and suspense well mixed into a fairly original plot. Not really scary, but a fair ‘who-dun-it’ style read. A good plot for TV, some macabre scenes. 8/10?
Warm and sunny this morning for an easy biked six miles. Elton Reservoir in pic one.
Pic two of water soldiers clogging canal at Bury end. Still okay for bike rides.
Many midges about at moment, a pair of (sun) glasses really helps if biking near canal or reservoir.
Summer Solstice – years longest day. From today it gets darker. Already.
Sunny for morning’s bike-ride, partly, along Wellington Viaduct where they’ve painted-over cracks. Is it finally collapsing? (More to do with stopping weeds I think.)
On the Fun and News with Noughts Front those govern-mental consider nhs £25,000,000,000.00p additional funding options. (There are two: 1) Borrow. 2) Tax-rises. There are no other options.) Hammond has ruled-out 1) Borrowing. Ergo we’ll get 2) Tax-rises. Natch other ‘services’ have been told there’s no more £.
Dragging more folk into 40% tax-bracket already hinted at.
Apparently eu folk want to introduce visit-visa’s, at £7.00p a time, for Brits visiting eu after Brexit. What a great idea – a Visit Great Britain visa, for eu folk, could be reasonably priced at £20.00p a time, or, in nhs funding times, £50.00p a time.
